KME Sharpeners began with a friend's dull broadheads and a tapered block of wood. Founder Ron Swartz kept refining that crude first fixture into a self-aligning broadhead sharpener. The company that grew from it now builds some of the most respected precision sharpening systems in the country in New Jersey, using American materials and backing its products with a limited lifetime warranty. New to guided sharpening? Our knife sharpening guide covers angle selection, grit progression, and burr removal before your first session.
The KME knife system pairs a rotating blade clamp with a spherical bearing rod guide, holding any angle from 17 to 30 degrees while the clamp flips edge to edge without releasing the knife. Neoprene padded jaws protect the blade, and depth reference lines make repositioning repeatable for touch-ups months later. The KME Precision Control Plus Knife Sharpener takes the platform further with friction drive angle adjustment and micro adjustment, built-in stone thickness compensation, a 360 degree rod end bearing, a quick twist removable base, and a magnetic stone carrier that accepts 4 to 6 inch stones. The KME Diamond Stone Sharpening System ships with four Gold Series hones from 140 to 1500 grit in a hardshell case. The R.P.S.H. Sharpening System pairs a 100 grit diamond with 120 and 320 grit ceramics and a hard Arkansas finisher. Among guided knife sharpening systems, KME has a reputation for turning first-timers into competent sharpeners in a single session.
Gold Series diamond hones come in standard and 6" lengths and run from The Beast at 50 grit through 100, 140, 300, 600, and 1500. Past the stones, diamond lapping films on glass blanks step down from 9 micron to 0.1 micron, with 6" x 1" replacement films in the same range. The KME 6" Kangaroo Strop and Kangaroo Leather Strop mount to the guide rod for a final finish, or pair with CBN compound for true mirror edges. All of these sit alongside our sharpening stones and strops and hones.
The KME Axe Sharpening System was the first guided system designed specifically for axes. Its magnetic base holds to the head, and it grinds true radius convex bevels or flat V grinds on axes, hatchets, and hawks. Owners of a KME knife system can add the Axe Sharpening Fixture alone, and the Convex Sharpening Guide Rod brings the same rounded bevel to knives with about 5 degrees of angle change per stroke. The Tapered Diamond Rod handles serrations, the JewelStik Diamond Hone works recurves and karambits in 270, 600, and 1800 grit, and the Scissor and Shear Sharpening Attachment covers shears without disassembly. Pen Knife Pro Jaws, Low Profile Standard Jaws, and the KME Sharpening System Base round out the platform. For the full progression of gear, start with our knife sharpening supplies department.
